Julie lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan with her husband Mitchell. She has a bachelor's degree in Engineering from Calvin University, and has been working as a civil engineer at Prein&Newhof for 6 years. Her specialties include hydraulic modeling and implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for water and wastewater systems.
She was first introduced to LGWI in 2014, when she and her husband Mitchell joined other Calvin students on a trip to Curahuasi, Peru with Bruce and Cherith. She went to Ecuador once more as a student as part of her senior design engineering project. Since then, she and Mitchell accompanied two small groups of Calvin engineering students to Ecuador in 2018 and 2019 to introduce them to service-learning with LGWI.
Julie enjoys cooking and gardening and loves maps. She is encouraged by seeing God work through LGWI and is excited to continue to be a part of it.
