Mark De Haan is a professional engineer currently working in Ecuador with the LGWI ministry. Mark is a 2015 graduate of Calvin University and first connected with LGWI while he was a senior engineering student.
Mark worked as a consulting engineer for six years in Grand Rapids, Michigan, post graduation, working on municipal engineering design including watermain, sewer, storm sewer, road, and bike path design. During this time, Mark visited Ecuador twice on trips with Safe Water in Ecuador, a non-profit organization connected to the Michigan Section of the American Water Works Association. Mark stays connected with Safe Water in Ecuador, raising funds for work in Ecuador and requesting technical assistance from practicing engineers in the US when needed.
In his role at LGWI since 2022, Mark works on water system design and modeling, directs the internship program for engineering students during June and July of each year, and manages visits of academic groups and church groups to visit and work alongside the ministry.
Mark is currently enrolled at Calvin Theological Seminary and anticipates graduating in May of 2027 with a Master of Arts in Bible and Theology.
During his free time, Mark enjoys reading, playing soccer, hiking, climbing mountains, and participating in services and other events with his church family.
